Birds are enjoyable to watch and wonderful
visitors to
have in your backyard or patio. Having bird
feeders, wild
bird foods
and
bird baths
in
our gardens can draw in our feathered friends and backyard bird watching is fun.
Adding a ready-made bird house for a nesting site or permanent living space
for birds can even add more enjoyment and
interest to your backyard. Selecting a Bird
houses
that is designed
for this purpose
has many options some of these are works of art, some feature a
birdhouse deck, and some bird houses are classic in design.
There
are many different birdhouse designs that you
can put in
your garden. Some can be hung from the tree branches, tree trunks,
while others can be mounted on poles, and some
birdhouse may even be
placed on platforms. There are also birdhouses that are designed with
decks
around the birdhouse.
While a small deck-like perch is acceptable,
larger birdhouse decks are hazardous to the safety of the bird so be
careful of your selection as some bird houses are decorative only and
present a potential hazard or are to small or in some cases to large
for the type of birds in your backyard.
Bird houses designed with large decks while they may mimic our house decks and look attractive to us can end up drawing predators towards the birds. Therefore if your birdhouses have any large sized decks attached, it is a wise idea to place your bird house away from things cats and other predators can jump from. Also make sure to remove the deck if this can not be done.
Putting
your birdhouse on a metal pole with a predator guard can
solve the problem with many predators. Keep in mind cats are not
the only
one
that likes to eat birds or eggs, coons, snake and even some
squirrels will eat eggs. You can make a predator guard by using plastic
milk jugs cut
in half, then cutting a
hole in the bottom and hanging it on the pole using duck tape to
secure it if needed, This can make an easy and effective predator guard
or you can purchase
a predator
guard. After all you do not want your backyard bird watching to become a horror story.
You also need to make sure the birdhouse design you select is either unpainted or has water-based paints and acrylic latex and have not been painted with led based paint or something else that can harm the bird or it's young.
There are a number of decorative and usable birdhouses with small deck areas available.
. The Connecticut
Retreat by Opus
is a
single apartment birdhouse. It
is handmade with real wood and a real stone chimney. Other design
features of
this birdhouse are
a bay window, rocking chair and flower pots. There
is a small sized birdhouse deck running the length of the exterior.
Breathing holes provide ventilation for nesting resident birds and
drainage holes are also provided.
These features have given the birdhouse and the birdhouse deck the ability to withstand harsh winters. The exterior of the birdhouse deck and house itself will change in appearance due to the weather. This change will not affect the birdhouse deck and will only add to the natural charm of the birdhouse.
Many of the
Victorian Bird House designs
feature bird
decks. Many of these small versions of a Victorian home are a work of
art. If you choose one that is on a pole make sure it is at
least five foot from the ground or more.If you need to put it
on
your own pole.it is worth it.
The
Little Red Barn Birdhouse by Barnstorm
is a
example of a wood, decorative bird house with a deck that is used as a

Purple
Martin House by Audubon
Workshop
. This very
attractive and functional Purple Martin Bird House is a very good
example of a birdhouse
design with a deck.

to each other, they are a very social bird. Remember no large porches
unless you put them on a tall bird
house pole
or add a
predator guard. Also Purple Martins like their homes fifteen feet or more off the ground..
As
was earlier mentioned birdhouses designs can
be simple
and
functional places where the birds will live, or they can be magnificent
works of art fit only for bird royalty, or you can have a window
bird house
so you can
see the bird family. There are
